1.1 What are SickKids Get Better Gifts?
SickKids Get Better Gifts are truly heartfelt gifts you can give to the special people in your life, that also brightens the day for the children at SickKids. Gifts range from promoting healing and recovery through play, to essential items the Hospital needs to provide the best care. All gifts support our vision – Healthier Children. 1.2 How do Get Better Gifts Work?
The beauty of giving a get Better Gift is the meaning it holds – you’re able to impact the recipient with a thoughtful gift that makes them feel good, and impact the children at SickKids with a range of experiences or vital hospital equipment.
1.3 Where does my money go?
SickKids Get Better Gifts are donations towards programs and designated funds in support of The Hospital for Sick Children. The values, services, equipment and programs described on this website are representations of the Hospital's programs, such as the Hospital's equipment fund or patient amenities fund, among others. As Get Better Gifts have a restricted purpose, ten percent will be allocated to the Foundation's general fund to increase the Foundation's capacity to raise and grant funds for paediatric health priorities and to cover the Foundation's costs, including receipting, reporting and stewardship.
SickKids Get Better Gifts are gifts designated to a specific purpose at The Hospital for Sick Children. If changed circumstances should at some future time make it, in the view of SickKids Foundation acting reasonably, impractical to continue to apply the gift to the designated purpose, SickKids Foundation may redesignate the purpose of the gift using its best efforts to adhere as closely as possible to the original intent of the gift.
1.4 Why is giving my email address mandatory?
We require an email address so we can set up an account that allows you to view your past orders, and download your greeting cards. Providing your email address allows us to reduce costs, eliminate tax-receipting errors and enables us to get you your electronic tax receipt within approximately 5 business days (please allow extra time during our busy Holiday season). If you do not have an email address, please call us at 1-855-813-4244 or 416-813-3240 and we will help you with your order and arrange for you to receive your tax receipt by mail.

Established in 1972, SickKids Foundation raises funds on behalf of The Hospital for Sick Children. The Foundation's fundraising is driven by the belief that improving the health and well-being of children is one of the most powerful ways to improve society. Community support, separate and distinct from government and granting agencies, is a critical source of funding for SickKids. In the fiscal year that ended March 31, 2015, SickKids Foundation invested $108.4 million in child health research, learning and care.
1.7 Can I purchase a Get Better Gift if I am not currently a SickKids donor?
Yes! Anyone can purchase a Get Better Gift, regardless of whether you’ve donated to SickKids in the past.
2.0 Placing an Order
How can I give to SickKids Get Better Gifts?
There are 4 easy steps to giving towards SickKids Get Better Gifts:
- Choose: You can select your gift by choosing a category from the top navigation on the homepage; Gifts for Occasions, Inspirational Gift Sets, Gift Certificates or Browse all gifts. You will find a selection of gifts in each category. Select your gifts and click “Add to Cart”. To choose more gifts select “Continue Shopping” from the shopping cart.
- Review: Once you have selected all of your gifts, click on “My Cart” to review your choices. You can remove gifts from the cart and select the quantity of each gift
- Customize (Optional): From the “My Cart” view, you will be able to select whether you would like to add FREE greeting cards. If yes, click “Yes, Add Greeting Cards”. Then click “Add Greeting Card” next to each gift to select the type of card you want. Each card will include a message about the gift that was selected as well as your personal message. You can choose to create a new card, or choose an existing card for subsequent cards. You can always edit your card as well after checkout, before they are sent/delivered. Your card options are:
- Download a Printable PDF Card which you can personalize, print and give to the gift recipient
- Send a personalized eCard to any email address on a specified date and time
- Send a personalized Card via Mail to any address in Canada. Cards via Mail will be processed in 2-4 business days. From there the card is subject to standard Canada Post delivery times. Please add up to 5 days during the busy holiday period.
- Check out: Once all cards are selected, click “Checkout”. Enter your personal and credit card details so we can process your gift. Your cards will be dispatched and you will be emailed your tax receipt within approximately 5 business days (please allow extra time during our busy Holiday season). For your convenience, a personalized account will automatically be created for you. Using your email address as your login, you can view your past gifts, and download your greeting cards.
Do I have to log in to purchase a Get Better Gift?
An account is automatically created for you after you give your first gift. You will need to activate your account in order to login to view order details and download greeting card(s). Please click here to activate your account. When activating your account, use the same email address from checkout.
What payment options do you offer for SickKids Get Better Gifts?
Accepted payments cards are Visa, MasterCard and American Express.
How do I remove items in my shopping cart?
While viewing your shopping cart, hit the “remove” button next to the gift item you wish to remove.
How do I add a general donation to my order?
Before you select your cards, you will be asked whether you would like to add a donation during the checkout stage. You have a choice to select a pre-determined amount, or you can input any amount.
Am I charged any taxes on my order?
No. A Get Better Gift is a donation to SickKids Foundation and therefore no tax is charged.
3.0 Greeting Cards
What kinds of cards do you have?We offer three kinds of cards: eCard, Printable PDF Card, and Card via Mail. Each of our three card types will include a message about the gift that was selected, as well as your personal message.
eCard: You simply type your personalized message in your eCard before sending it. The eCard will be sent immediately or on a specific date or time which you can determine. Including, but not limited to:

Choose to download and print a PDF card. There is ample space in which you can type or handwrite a personal message in the PDF card. Including, but not limited to:
Cards via Mail:
You can choose to have SickKids mail a Card directly to your recipient, with your personal message included, via Canada Post. Including:
How much does it cost to send a greeting card?
Nothing! Greeting cards are FREE with every Get Better Gift.
How do I get my greeting cards?
You can request one greeting card for each gift ordered. From the “My Cart” view, click “Yes, Add Greeting Cards”. You can then choose to “Add Greeting Card” next to each gift to select the type of card you want. You can:
- Download a Printable PDF Card which you can personalize, print and give to the gift recipient. You will be sent a link to download your PDF card immediately after checkout.
- Send a personalized eCard to any email address. Your gift recipient will be sent their eCard with gift details immediately or on a specific date you have indicated.
- Send a Card via Mail to any address in Canada. Cards via Mail will be processed in 2-4 business days. From there the card is subject to standard Canada Post delivery times. Please add up to 5 days during the busy holiday period.
What if I don’t want to receive any cards?
We offer you the option to not receive any cards for the selection of your gifts. You can simply choose the “No Thanks, Checkout Now” option offered in your cart.
Can I put multiple gifts on one card?
Yes. To place multiple gifts on one card, simply select “Add Greeting Card” next to one of the gifts and create your personalized card. For each subsequent gift you would like to place on this card, select “Add Greeting Card” for the next gift and then “Choose Existing Card”.
You can also opt to create individual cards for each gift. Simply select “Add Greeting Card”, then “Create a New Greeting Card” for each gift.
Can I place a message in the card?
Yes. You can write your own personalized message in any of the three card options you choose.
How long will it take for my greeting cards to arrive?
For eCards, it’s whenever you want! Whether it’s immediately for last-minute gifts, or at a future date for a special day like a loved one’s birthday, you have the flexibility to set the date the card is emailed. If you do not specify a date or time, your eCard will automatically be sent to your recipient approximately 1 hour from the time you complete your eCard. For Printable PDF Cards, they are available for download immediately. For Card via Mail, we aim to send your card through mail 2-4 business days after the gift has been donated. From there, the card is subject to standard Canada Post delivery times. Please allow up to 5 days for a Card via Mail to be sent during the busy holiday period.
What happens if my Card Via Mail does not arrive?
If for some reason your card does not arrive, please send an email to email@example.com or call 1-855-813-4244 or 416-813-3240 and we will send you a new card.
Do SickKids Get Better Gift eCards have to be retrieved within a specified period of time?
eCards are sent directly to the recipient’s inbox and will remain active as long as the recipient does not delete the email.
My eCard recipient did not receive their eCard how do I re-send?
Each of your greeting card recipients may have different spam filtering rules set up for their email account. The first thing to do is ask your recipient(s) to check their email spam folder for their greeting card. You can also simply log in to access your My Account on the Get Better Gifts website and click on the order that contains your greeting card. Then, click on the “Download Greeting Card" link. You can print and give the Greeting Card to the recipient, or attach it in an email to them.
Can I schedule when my card is sent?
This option is only available for eCards.
How long can my personal message be in my card?
Your personal message can be a maximum of 250 characters long, which is about 40 – 50 words.
4.0 My Account/Order History
Why do I need a profile?
When you place an order on the Get Better Gifts website, a profile will automatically be created for you using your email address. You will need to activate your account in order to login. Please click here to activate your account. When activating you account, use the same email address from checkout. You will need this profile if you wish to log in to your My Account at a later date to view your past purchases and greeting cards. It is important to note that one (1) email address will be connected to one (1) profile; however, multiple users with the same email address can have different user information in the same profile.
How do I login?
After you place your first order, a login is automatically created for you. You will need to activate your account in order to login to view order details and download greeting card(s). Please click here to activate your account. When activating your account, use the same email address from checkout. You can also activate your account by clicking on the "Sign In" link on the top right corner of the site.
How do I reset my password?
To reset your password, click here. Click on the “forgot password” link.
I have forgotten my password. How can I retrieve it?

How do I cancel my profile?
Please note, that only accounts which have been activated will need to be cancelled. If you cancel your profile you will no longer be able to access your order(s) and greeting card(s). If you lose your original tax receipt that is emailed to you, please call 1-855-813-4244 or 416-813-3240 To cancel your account,click here. It is important to note that one (1) profile is connected to one (1) email address. If you share an email address with another user, their information will be deleted as well.
5.0 Tax Receipts
Will I receive a tax receipt?
When you select a SickKids Get Better Gift, you are in fact donating to SickKids Foundation which makes your purchase eligible for a tax receipt. An electronic tax receipt will be emailed to you within approximately 5 business days of completing your order. We strive to provide you with your tax receipt as soon as possible but please allow for extra time during our busy Holiday season.
I lost my tax receipt, how do I get a new one?
Please refer to your tax receipt email to re-print your tax receipt. If you have since deleted your email, please call us at 1-855-813-4244 or 416-813-3240, and we will issue you a new tax receipt.
What should I do if I do not receive my tax receipt?
Each email provider may have different spam filtering rules set up for their email account. The first thing to do is check your email spam folder for your tax receipt email. If you cannot locate your email, please verify the email address you used to place your order. If you are still having difficulties, please call us at 1-855-813-4244 or 416-813-3240 for assistance.
6.0 Gift Certificates
Why should I give a Gift Certificate?
A Gift Certificate is a good choice that allows friends, family or colleagues to choose their gift. With a Gift Certificate, the recipient can go online and browse our array of gifts and choose one that is most meaningful to them.
How do I redeem my Gift Certificate?
To redeem your Gift Certificate, simply go online and browse through our gift catalogue. Once you’ve chosen the item(s) you would like to redeem, simply add them to the shopping cart. When you have completed your selections, continue with your checkout and enter your Gift Certificate Code in the field provided. The system will deduct the value of your Gift Certificate from your total when checking out. If you are having difficulties with your Gift Certificate Code, please call us at 1-855-813-4244 or 416-813-3240 for assistance.
What if I don't use the full value of my Gift Certificate?
You may use your Gift Certificate more than once. If there is a remaining balance you can use it for future gifts.
What happens if I would like to choose something that has a higher price than the amount of my Gift Certificate?
You can choose something of a higher value by adding the item to your cart. When it comes time to check out, enter your Gift Certificate Code in the field provided. The system will then calculate the outstanding amount which you can simply charge to a credit card.
What should I do if my Gift Certificate Code is not working?

Will I still get a tax receipt if I give a Gift Certificate?
Yes! All Get Better Gifts, including Gift Certificates are donations to SickKids Foundation and are eligible for a tax receipt.
Do Gift Certificates expire?
No. All Get Better Gifts, and Gift Certificates, do not have an expiry date.
How do I send the recipient their Gift Certificate?
Greeting cards are not available for Gift Certificates. You will receive an email with a downloadable version of your Gift Certificate immediately after purchase. Simply download, print and personalize the Gift Certificate to give to your recipient. If you wish to email the gift certificate, you can copy and paste the URL into an email or simply forward and edit the email.

How do I teach my children about philanthropy using a Get Better Gift?
Purchase a Gift Certificate for your child, then allow them to actively participate in choosing the gifts that will help the children at SickKids and their families. Explain to them how giving to others in need is a selfless and rewarding act – helping to teach them a priceless lesson about philanthropy they’ll remember throughout their lives.
